Lucy makes wheel-thrown ceramics in her studio on the North Coast of Cornwall. She use local stoneware clay and a porcelain clay to make everything from earrings to stoneware teapots, decorated with inspiration from the beauty and magic of the natural world around her. She finishes off all her pieces with a touch of gold lustre sparkle.
Lucy feels very fortunate to have always had a close relationship to the landscape and wildlife, having grown up on a farm near Exmoor, in North Devon.
Lucy moved to Cornwall, when she began my Ceramics Degree at Falmouth Uni, and has been here, in Cornwall ever since. During her Ceramics Degree Lucy was awarded the ‘Ferdnand Zweig Memorial Scholarship’ to travel and study in Japan. This was an experience of a lifetime, she feels so lucky to meet many inspiring potters and learnt invaluable skills during her time there. Japanese ceramics and their philosophy still inspires Lucy's work to this day and she continues to be inspired by the East meets West at the Leach Pottery as a volunteer.
Lucy met her husband while they were both at Falmouth Uni and they now have two children together. After a few years of practising as a studio potter, Lucy retrained to become an Art teacher for 16 yrs at Truro School.
Then two years ago Lucy decided to finish her lovely teaching job & with huge support from her husband, she became a self-employed potter again, Lucy tells us that she is loving it! Lucy feels so fortunate to be able to create her ceramics and living in this beautiful part of the world, that continues inspire her work daily.
