Wild Cherry Tree Sapling
Let love grow with your own Wild Cherry tree. The shiny bark is a deep reddish-brown with prominent cream-coloured horizontal lines called lenticels, they can live up to 60 years. The second part of its botanical name - avium - refers to birds which play a role in the tree's propagation by eating the cherries and dispersing the seeds.
Our tree saplings come with a hand personalised card which make these a perfect gift to send to a friend or loved one. With 3 different card designs to choose from, our tree saplings are a great present to send for any occasion, or just to show someone you care and about them and the future of our planet.
As advocates of promoting sustainability and carbon offsetting, we’re beyond excited to be introducing our Tree Saplings to our product range and becoming further invested in solidifying the positive future of the beautiful environment we utilise and enjoy daily.
- Mature Size: Your Wild Cherry tree will grow up to 30 metres tall
- Value To Wildlife: Your Wild Cherry's Spring flowers provide an early source of nectar and pollen for bees; while the cherries are eaten by birds including the blackbird and song thrush; as well as mammals, such as the badger and wood mouse.
- Uses: Your Wild Cherry has many cultivars and is a popular ornamental tree in gardens. Traditionally, cherries were planted for their fruit.
- Eco-Info: As this tree matures it can consume 48 pounds carbon dioxide a year, and will release enough oxygen for you to breathe for two years. It's estimated once planted, your tree will sequester approximately 250kg of carbon dioxide in above-ground biomass, over a period of 100 years.
We all have a role to play in the fight against climate change. The collection of our actions, no matter how small, can have a profound impact when combined with thousands of others wanting to make a difference. By being mindful of the choices we make and their consequence on the environment, we can not only reduce our own carbon footprint but also build demand and influence the creation for more climate-protecting policies, practices and products around the world.
Through our Green Matters commitments we are committed to reducing our impact on the planet. When we have been discussing this aim at Whistlefish HQ, planting trees was a consistent desire for the whole team. We wanted to find a way to help offset our carbon footprint that dovetailed with our FSC approved paper and provided our customers with an opportunity to offset their footprint at the same time.
Planting is a great way to help sequester carbon emissions. Through photosynthesis, trees absorb carbon dioxide to produce oxygen and wood. Our brand-new exciting Tree Sapling Gifts will provide you with the opportunity to work towards your own carbon offsetting goals or encourage others around you to do so.
