How to throw an easy Jubilee party

June 2nd - 5th 2022 marks a special holiday this year as we celebrate Queen Elizabeth II's platinum anniversary: 70 years in service having ascended to the throne on 6th February 1952 at the tender age of 25 years old.

We might not all have a palace to throw our own party, but there's certainly plenty of opportunity to create a decadent event that doesn't require a team of footmen! We've put together an easy guide to host a beautiful celebration, with simple decorations, recipes and staging that you won't spend the whole weekend preparing, giving you more time to sit back and relax with family and friends.

If the British weather is playing ball, the garden makes an easy-breezy setting. You can lay picnic blankets out for people to lounge on so you don't have to source multiple chairs for everyone, just make sure you've got a few out for members of the family that might not find sitting on the grass as easy as others.

TABLE SETTING

A simple white table cloth makes a big difference to any old table. A central flower arrangement in whites and blues makes a statement. Build out from the centre laying Union Jack plates, napkins and paper cups, anchoring down with cutlery. Place a cake stand at each end to create elevation and fill with your family's favourite desserts and snacks. The addition of glassware adds a luxurious touch.

DECOR

When it comes to decorations, we've got a gorgeous collection of easy-to-put-up options. These biodegradable balloons come with pre-curled ribbon so all you need to do is blow up, cut to length and tie to chairs or one heavy central point. Bunting is super-quick to put up, these Union Jack or golden crown option are so pretty strung over the table. These red, blue and white crepe streamers are just gorgeous outside as they dance in the wind - we've put together a quick guide as to how to put them up in the easiest way possible.

FOOD & DRINK

It feels like there's nothing more British than gin and our Whistlefish X Atlantic Distillery recipes, infused with British botanicals, are perfect for Jubilee celebrations. We love a big sharable jug of punch like the one we made using our Wildflower Gin, tonic, strawberries and mint. For a take on the classic Kir Royale, try a glass of bubbly enhanced with a shot of our Lavender & Orange Gin for a beautiful, subtle floral note.

It's not a party without cake but a lot of pressure can come with baking a large centre piece. Try making mini Victoria sponges using clotted cream and jam in the centre for the quickest fillings then top with our Union Jack flag picks. These little food tubs are perfect for filling with crisps, popcorn or fruit to keep little ones entertained in during festivities.
