THE CLYDESDALE HORSE SOCIETY
At Whistlefish, we’re passionate about celebrating history, tradition, and the beauty of the natural world in everything we do. Our owner, Lyn, has a particular love for Clydesdale horses – These gentle giants hold a special place in her heart.
Unfortunately, Clydesdales have become quite rare today. With only about 5,000 left worldwide, they are now considered a treasured breed. Their decline began when machines and cars replaced them as draft animals, causing their popularity to dip. But their strength and grace continue to inspire us to honour them while we can.
The Clydesdale Horse Society, founded in 1877, continues to work tirelessly to protect this treasured breed. With a dedicated council of members from across the UK and Ireland, the Society works to ensure that Clydesdales remain part of our world. Through careful breeding programs and public awareness campaigns, they’re helping to preserve the legacy of these incredible animals.
For years, St. Francis Dogs Home has been a vital resource in Cornwall, tirelessly rehoming dogs and ensuring they’re given the love they deserve. Beverly, who relocated to Cornwall in 2017 after building and running a canine hydrotherapy and rehabilitation centre in Oxfordshire, has dedicated over three decades to working with dogs. Her passion shines through as she leads St. Francis in providing a comforting refuge for each dog that comes their way.
St. Francis Dogs Home has an even broader vision. With planning permission now in place, they’re set to construct new, modern kennels and facilities, including overnight care, administrative space, and a training centre. This expansion will enable them to offer further support, hosting workshops and educational sessions for the community and aspiring animal care professionals.
