Restoring Ancient Rainforest for all our Future
“Britain was once a wooded isle, with over 98% of the land covered in trees. But now only 2% of that ancient wild wood survives. Cultural amnesia means we have forgotten our woodland past but we are a people of the woods. Our fates are linked, ensuring the survival of our woodlands and trees is imperative to our future.”
Carl Rowlison, Director and Co-Founder.

Plant One Cornwall
Plant One Cornwall are a Community Interest Company. Creating woodland habitats that benefit native wildlife and keeps Cornwall a green and special land. Every penny received goes directly towards putting establishing woodlands for the benefit of all. They’re conscious of the importance of our native habitats, that’s why each of there multiple sites is assessed for it’s suitability before trees are planted. Empowering communities to restore nature by connecting landowners and businesses for impactful tree planting. We strive to rejuvenate the Celtic Rainforest, enhance biodiversity, create public woodlands, and support local efforts to increase the UK’s canopy cover and carbon capture.
What They Do
How They Do it
They create, regenerate, and maintain the Celtic rainforest and important woodland habitats, such as the humble but hardworking hedgerow by connecting landowners and businesses to establish rich, temperate rainforest environments. Through partnerships, they support landowners in fostering natural regeneration of ancient woodlands, utilizing existing seed banks and/or maintaining existing historic Celtic woodland sites. Working with landowners to create valuable woodlands, this is done through tree planting but also working with nature to encourage natural regeneration.
Celtic Rainforests
What are they?
Celtic rainforests, rare temperate rainforests along the western coasts of Britain and Ireland, thrive in high-rainfall, humid, and mild climates influenced by the Atlantic, these are also called Atlantic Oakwoods. Found in areas like Cornwall, Wales, and Scotland, these ancient woodlands feature lush mosses, lichens, ferns, and old trees such as Oak, Birch, Ash, and Hazel, its so damp and humid that plants actually grow on plants. these are called epiphytes. Supporting unique species adapted to these conditions, Celtic rainforests play a crucial role in carbon storage and climate mitigation. These culturally rich landscapes, linked to Celtic folklore, help prevent flooding by absorbing rainwater and and having a structural significance to the landscape. However, they are threatened by invasive species, climate change and land-use changes, making conservation essential to preserve their ecological and cultural value.
Woodland Creation & Regeneration
Woodland creation establishes new forests by planting trees in suitable areas, while regeneration restores degraded lands by encouraging the natural growth of native species. Both approaches aim to enhance biodiversity, provide habitats, and increase carbon sequestration to combat climate change. Woodland creation involves careful species selection, while regeneration may require managing invasive species and using seed banks to support natural re-growth. These efforts are essential for improving soil quality, reducing erosion, regulating water cycles, and fostering environmental resilience amidst global deforestation.
