The Little Things We Love About Autumn

Our Blog Published on October 23, 2026

From windswept Cornish beaches and golden woodland walks to cinnamon buns, questionable knitwear and cosy evenings in, the Whistlefish team share the little things that make autumn their favourite time of year.

There's something about autumn that makes us fall in love with the little things all over again.

That first morning when you can see your breath in the air. The satisfying crunch of leaves beneath your boots. Coming home with rosy cheeks, putting the kettle on and feeling absolutely no guilt about spending the evening under a blanket.

It's a season that invites us to slow down, get outside, get creative and appreciate the simple pleasures that make everyday life feel special.

Here at Whistlefish, autumn is also one of our favourite times to find inspiration. From the changing colours of the Cornish countryside to the smallest details in nature, there's so much that finds its way into the artwork and designs we create.

Autumn, according to the Whistlefish team

Alice, Customer Services

Wild Cornish weather, coastal walks and cosy pubs

For Alice, autumn is all about the contrast between the great outdoors and the comfort of coming home. Burnt-orange colours, fresh sea breezes and crackling fires are followed by snuggly evenings, wholesome homemade dinners and comforting puddings.

And her ultimate autumn comfort food? Irish colcannon stew.

We think she's got the balance just right. A little adventure, followed by something delicious.

Will, Social & Creative Lead

Golden leaves, cinnamon buns and finding inspiration everywhere

Autumn inspiration isn't limited to the Cornish countryside.

Will loves watching London's green spaces transform into a patchwork of gold, orange and red. He spends time wandering through parks, collecting interesting leaves and scanning them to inspire his graphic design work.

It's a lovely reminder that the smallest details in nature can spark the biggest creative ideas.

Add the sound of leaves crunching underfoot, a hot coffee and a cinnamon bun, and, as Will puts it, "that's autumn wrapped up in a little bubble for me!"

Robbie, Graphic Designer

Creative experiments, questionable outfits and cosy evenings

For Robbie, autumn means one thing: his creative brain going into overdrive.

From layering what he describes as "questionable outfits" and designing patterns for his own clothes to making ceramics and experimenting with new materials, the season brings a whole new wave of inspiration.

He's usually either out running in the cold or starting another creative project, despite admitting he probably doesn't need another hobby.

And when the darker evenings roll in? You'll find him wrapped in a blanket with his dog, enjoying the slower, cosier side of autumn.

A little chaos, a lot of creativity and a very happy dog. We love it.

Jess, Designer

Chai lattes, Harry Potter and the colours of autumn

For Jess, autumn is a feast for the senses.

A warm chai latte, the comforting smell of cinnamon and spice, a favourite blanket and a Harry Potter book. It's her perfect recipe for a cosy afternoon.

But it's the colours of the season that really capture her imagination.

"The rich reds, golden yellows, burnt oranges, and earthy browns give me endless inspiration."

As one of our designers, Jess loves capturing that warmth and beauty in her paintings, bringing a little piece of autumn to life on paper.

And we can't think of a lovelier way to celebrate the season.

Cathrine, Managing Director

Golden sunrises, pumpkin carving and family traditions

For Cathrine, autumn is about appreciating the beautiful colours all around us and making memories with family.

From the soft oranges and browns of the changing leaves to the colours of the sky at sunrise, she loves the calmness that autumn brings.

But it's also the excitement of what's to come.

Carving pumpkins, watching her daughter get excited about trick-or-treating and enjoying those little family traditions that mark the beginning of the festive season.

Because sometimes the best thing about autumn isn't just how beautiful it looks. It's the memories we make along the way.

Aidan, Ecommerce Analyst

Hot water bottles, cosy evenings and midnight thunderstorms

While some of us are chasing the last of the autumn sunshine, Aidan is fully embracing the colder weather.

His favourite things? Bringing out the warmer clothes, getting cosy with a hot water bottle and enjoying the comfort of a chilly evening indoors.

And there's one thing he particularly loves that might divide opinion: hearing a thunderstorm in the middle of the night.

There's something wonderfully comforting about listening to wild weather outside when you're tucked up warm indoors.

We're with you on the hot water bottle, Aidan!

Inspired by the season, made to be shared

What we love most about these little autumn rituals is how different they are.

For some of us, it's pulling on our boots and heading out into the wild Cornish weather. For others, it's a favourite book, a warm drink, a family tradition or a sudden burst of creativity.

But there's something that connects them all: finding joy in the little things.

It's an idea that's always been close to our hearts at Whistlefish.

Our artists and designers take inspiration from the world around them, from beautiful landscapes and changing seasons to the everyday moments that make us smile. Those little details become illustrations, colours, textures and thoughtful finishing touches on the cards and artwork we create.

And whether it's a birthday card that makes someone laugh, a little note to say you're thinking of them or a piece of artwork that brightens someone's home, we believe those small moments of connection are worth celebrating.

So this autumn, we're taking a little inspiration from our team. Getting outdoors, noticing the changing colours, embracing the cosy evenings and making time for the people and things we love.

And perhaps sending a card or two, just because.

Now it's your turn...

We'd love to know what makes autumn special to you.

Is it your first pumpkin-spiced coffee of the year? A favourite woodland walk? Sunday roasts, homemade crumble or finally getting your favourite jumper back out of the wardrobe?

Tell us your favourite little thing about autumn.

Come and join the conversation over on our Instagram, @whistlefish, and share the moments that make this season feel magical.

Because sometimes it's the little things that mean the most.
