At Whistlefish, we love celebrating creativity, from our beautiful cards and thoughtful gifts to simple crafts you can enjoy at home. This project for a paper daisy is a perfect example. Bright, cheerful, and full of charm, this craft is a wonderful way to bring a touch of springtime indoors, no matter the weather.

Making paper daisies is a wonderfully calming activity. It’s the perfect project to enjoy with a cup of tea, and you'll have a beautiful decoration to keep on display when you're done. Let's get started.

what you'll need

  • White cardstock

  • Yellow paper

  • A wooden skewer

  • Green paint / Paint Pen

  • Scissors and glue

  • A pencil and something round (like a small plate or plant pot)

step-by-step instructions

  1. Cut the Petal Base: Cut a square piece of white cardstock. The size of the square will determine how big your daisy will be.

  2. Shape the Circle: Place your round object on the cardstock, trace around it with your pencil, and cut out the circle.

  3. Fold for Petals: Fold the circle in half, then fold it in half again.

  4. Create the Petals: Using your scissors, make four cuts into the outer, folded edge of the circle. Gently round off the corners of each section to shape your petals.

  5. Make the Center Cut: Unfold the circle and make a single cut from the outer edge to the center.

  6. Form the Flower: Gently overlap the cut edges and press down to create a slight curve in the petals.

  7. Prepare the Stem: Paint your wooden skewer green and set it aside to dry completely.

  8. Make the Center: Cut a 10 cm-wide strip of yellow paper. Snip small cuts along one long edge of the strip, stopping about halfway into the paper.

  9. Attach the Center: Roll the yellow paper strip tightly into a coil, securing the end with a small dot of glue. Glue this coil to the top of your painted skewer.

  10. Assemble the Daisy: Carefully push the skewer through the center of your white paper flower so the yellow coil sits neatly in the middle. Adjust the petals until you're happy with the final shape.
