Things to Do in and Around Perranporth

Perranporth is a place that invites you to slow down. Whether you love walking, paddling, or simply sitting with a view, there’s something here for everyone.

Coastal Walk to St Agnes

This scenic path offers far-reaching views, wildflowers, tucked-away coves and echoes of Cornwall’s mining past. A gentle adventure with plenty of beauty along the way.

Catch a Wave

Perranporth has a proud surfing heritage. With plenty of local surf schools, it’s a wonderful place to try something new — or reconnect with the thrill of the waves.

Tee Off with a View

High above the sea, the local golf course offers rolling greens and Atlantic views that make every round memorable, even if your swing’s a little off.

Tour a Local Cider Farm

Just a short drive inland, Healey’s Cornish Cyder Farm offers tastings, tractor rides and a friendly insight into one of Cornwall’s most loved tipples.

Horse Riding by the Dunes

Gentle treks along the coast offer a peaceful way to explore the surrounding landscape — especially lovely in the early morning or golden hour.

The Stories Behind the Sand: Perranporth’s History

Few places in Cornwall are as steeped in legend as Perranporth. In the 5th century, it’s said that St Piran — the patron saint of Cornwall — washed ashore here on a millstone, having been exiled from Ireland. He built a small chapel in the dunes, and his legacy lives on in the Cornish flag and the name of the town itself.

You can still find the remains of his oratory hidden among the sands — a quietly powerful place for those who seek it. For a deeper look into the area’s past, the Perranzabuloe Museum, just off the high street, tells the story of mining, farming, and even the beginnings of British surfing, which took root here in the 1930s.

Local Tips & Friendly Reminders

Dogs on the Beach

Perranporth welcomes dogs all year round. Between 10am and 5pm during July and August, dogs need to be on a lead in the main beach area, but there’s still plenty of space to explore freely. Read Cornwalls Dogs on the beach policy for more info.

Lifeguard Cover

RNLI lifeguards are on duty from early April to the end of October, offering peace of mind for sea swimmers and families alike.

A Place to Pause

Whether it’s a wander through the dunes, a long lunch by the sea, or simply sitting with a view and letting time drift by, Perranporth has a special kind of calm that stays with you long after you leave.
