A Lovely Day Out in Padstow

6 min Our Blog May 28, 2025

If you’ve ever strolled along the harbour at Padstow, you’ll already know, it’s a place that quietly wins your heart. Nestled on Cornwall’s north coast, where the sea meets stone and sails bob gently in the tide, Padstow offers that rare feeling of being exactly where you want to be. Sea air, warm pasties in hand, and the gentle hum of boats in the bay... it’s the sort of town you linger in.

You’ll find our two Whistlefish shops right in the middle of it all, down on South Quay. We’ve got our Cards & Gifts Shop on one side and our Art Gallery next door, so whether you’re just popping in for a card or staying a while to explore the artwork, you’re very welcome. Lots of people say it’s their favourite little stop in Padstow, and we couldn’t be prouder.

Padstow can get busy in the summer, so we thought we’d share five lovely things to do while you’re here — especially if you’re looking to step off the beaten track and enjoy a quieter moment or two.

1. Visit Prideaux Place

This beautiful old Elizabethan house is just a short walk from the harbour, and it’s a lovely place to wander around. You can join a tour if you’re curious about the history or just enjoy a peaceful cream tea in the tearoom. There’s a deer park opposite the house too, and if you’re lucky you might spot a few quietly grazing.

2. Grab an Ice Cream from Roskilly’s

Right next door to our shop you’ll find Roskilly’s Ice Cream... a proper Cornish treat! Their clotted cream vanilla is a favourite of ours, but honestly, you can’t go wrong. Sit by the harbour with a cone in hand, and you’ve got yourself a perfect Padstow moment.

3. Hop on a Bike Along the Camel Trail

If you fancy stretching your legs a bit, hire a bike and head out on the Camel Trail. It runs alongside the estuary and it’s mostly flat, so it’s great for all ages. You can ride to Wadebridge or even Bodmin if you’re feeling energetic. The views are just beautiful.

We’ve actually captured it in a piece of artwork too — take a peek at our Camel Trail Framed Print if you want to bring a little reminder home.

4. Picnic at St. Saviour’s Point

If you wander round the harbour and past the war memorial, you’ll find a quiet grassy spot looking out over the estuary. It’s such a peaceful place to stop, especially with a sandwich or a flask of tea. And if you fancy walking further, the coast path from here will take you all the way out to Stepper Point.

5. Catch the Ferry to Rock

This is a lovely little trip across the estuary. The ferry runs every day and takes you over to Rock, where you’ll find quieter beaches and some gorgeous walking routes up to Daymer Bay. It’s also a lovely view back towards Padstow from the other side.

If you’re visiting Padstow soon, we hope you’ll stop by our Whistlefish shops and say hello. Whether you’re browsing for gifts, picking out your favourite print, or just enjoying a quiet moment in the gallery, we’re always happy to see you.

And if you’re reading this from further afield, you can still explore our Padstow-inspired artwork online and find a little piece of Cornwall to brighten your home.

See you soon, and don’t forget your ice cream!
